Vicente Alcayne is one of the most prestigious architects of the square and bevel in Valencia during the second half of the 19th century, with a long active life.
He began his career as a master builder at the San Carlos School of Fine Arts. In 1855 he obtained the title of director of local roads and irrigation canals, and two years later he was awarded a new title of master builder. In 1851 and 1855 he took part in two public exhibitions organised by the Sociedad Económica de Amigos del País (Economic Society of Friends of the Country) in the Architecture Section. A person with a restless spirit, he also devoted himself to politics, becoming a councillor during the Glorious Revolution of 1868. He was elected mayor of Valencia in 1873 and during the two-year period 1887-1888, and was a member of the Republican Coalition in 1895.
