He trained at the Llotja school under the orders of Pasqual Pere Moles and later studied at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid under the instructions of Manuel Salvador Carmona. There he became director of the teaching of plate engraving at the Royal Academy of San Fernando and the king’s chamber engraver. He mastered the techniques of etching and intaglio carving.
In 1797 he was named an academic of merit of San Fernando and he held the position of director of engraving, taking the place of his teacher, Carmona. He also made engravings for editions of important works, such as those of Francisco de Quevedo, but he is best known for his faithful reproductions of works by painters such as Velázquez, Ribera, Murillo and Goya.
