The Calcografia Nacional was created in 1789 to undertake important engraving projects that arose within the framework of Enlightenment politics. It brings together an extraordinary set of plates engraved by the most significant Spanish artists, forming one of the largest and best collections of intaglio matrices in the world. Its main treasure is the copper plates etched by Francisco de Goya, masterpieces in the universal history of engraving.
