At the end of the 1840s the Litográfica de Luis Marquier, owned by the Frenchman François Louis Marquier, was founded and became the most important lithographic printing house in Cuba at that time. Its presses would publish the works of leading painters and draughtsmen, such as Federico Mialhe Toussaint and Eduardo Laplante y Barcou.
