He was a Flemish draughtsman, engraver and publisher, the first of a family of famous artists and engravers. He worked in Flanders, Bavaria and Italy with the approval of the personalities of the time. In addition to his own works, he published works by Cripsin de Pase, Johan Wierix, Zuccari, Carracci and others.
