Disciple of Antonio Vilaomat. He travelled to Paris and Madrid where he completed his artistic training. Together with his brother Manuel, he fought for the free teaching of the plastic arts in confrontation with the guilds. This initiative led to the creation of the Free School of Drawing (1775), the forerunner of the present-day Reial Acadèmia de Belles Arts de Sant Jordi.
In 1759, on the occasion of the visit of Charles III, he produced several drawings commemorating the festivities and parades held to welcome them, known as the Royal Mask of Charles III.
