Louis Auguste Turgis founded the publishing house L. Turgis in 1828 in Toulouse, and in 1853 he settled in Paris. On his death, his widow and heirs continued the workshop, which underwent several changes of location until its closure in 1928. In 1856 Turgis Jeune also opened a new office in New York under the firm of J. Turgis & c. which remained open until 1908.
