He studied at the San Fernando School of Fine Arts in Madrid. At the outbreak of the War of Independence he travelled to Saragossa, as a result of which he produced a series of heroic prints which he published in Cadiz together with Fernando Brambilla. After the war he returned to Madrid, where he was appointed chamber painter and taught at the San Fernando School. In 1814 he was appointed an individual of merit of the Academy. He also devoted himself to decorative painting, especially the painting of vaults and ceilings.
