Ximeno y Planes, Rafael (1759-1825)

Valencian painter and draughtsman. He trained at the San Fernando Royal Academy, also in Rome. He held the post of director of the Royal Academy of San Carlos in Valencia. In 1794 he moved to Mexico City, where he was first deputy director and then director of the San Carlos Academy. His years in Mexico coincided with the period of the struggle for independence.
