JOSÉ CAMARÓN BONANAT (1731-1803)
Spain, 18th century.
Pen and ink wash on laid paper.
The scene, which takes place in an interior, shows the moment when the Saint places his hand on the head of the woman kneeling before him while showing her the crucifix as a sign of blessing. The breaking of the Gloria with cherubs gives the miraculous character to the event, which is witnessed by several people. It is likely that it is the representation of the miracle in which a woman recovers her sight after the blessing of the saint. The drawing, which is done with precise pen touches, shows Camarón’s most characteristic graphic style.
Very good state of preservation.
