JOSEP TRIADÓ MAYOL (1870-1929)
Catalonia, early 20th century.
Pen and ink and watercolour on cardboard.
Drawing for a diploma entitled “God, Fatherland and King” (pug-like motto). In the drawing we can see elements alluding to the monarchy (crown), religion (cross), fatherland (flag) and its pertinent defence (lion). In the centre, in addition to the anvil and hammer, on which a young man is working, we can see a view of Montjuïc Mountain (Barcelona). On the left, a popular pamphleteer scene.
Triadó was a Catalan draughtsman, ex-book writer and painter. He collaborated in magazines such as Gato negro (1898), Album salón (1898-1899) and Hispania (1899-1902). Author of numerous ex libris, he made a triptych for the Sala Sant Jordi of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
Slight cracks on the right, perfectly restorable.
