MIGUEL PARRA (1780-1846)
Spain, 19th century.
Pencil and wash of different colours on laid paper with watermark F. Abad y C.
The drawing shows us a project for a monstrance, finished in its central right part and, only faintly sketched, in pencil, in its left part. Despite not being finished, it can be considered a presentation work, to make the project known. It is done with light, but successful strokes of wash, which are placed on the initial preparation in pencil. In this way, the right part of the temple is defined, while the monstrance is more sketched. The left part, being the same, has only been outlined with a light pencil stroke.
The drawing responds to the most subtle and refined graphic style of Miguel Parra, a relevant figure of the Valencian school of Flowers and Ornament, created at the Academy of Fine Arts of San Carlos, following the Royal Order of Carlos III of 1784.
