EUSEBI PLANAS (Barcelona, 1833-1897)

Drawing with a critical air towards the figure of Queen Isabella II.

Eusebi Planas, as well as being an avowed republican, undertook various ventures aimed at satirizing the royal family and the political leaders of the time. Recently, the Barcelona historian and bibliophile Albert Domènech has argued that Planas, together with Tomás Padró, could be one of the ideologists and executors of the famous series of critical drawings known as ‘Los Borbones en Pelota’ (The Bourbons in Ball). [Were the Bécquer brothers the authors of the album ‘Los borbones en pelotas’? Josep Playá, La Vanguardia, 26 January 2021].
