Joaquín Torres-García & Barcelona

1891-1919

16 October, 2013 - 17 January, 2014

In this exhibition of about 40 drawings from the International artist Joaquín Torres-García we’ve planned a tour around his very first early period as an artist in Barcelona (years 1891-1919), in which can be noticed influences from contemporary artists like: Picasso, Puvis de Chavannes, Isidre Nonell, Toulouse Lautrec, Ramon Casas among others. The exhibition is a unique occasion to get into the formation period of this artist, theory and pioneer of the movement called “Constructivism”. Apart of him, can be seen works of other near artists infuenced by him, as Esteve Monegal. Finally it’s exhibited a rare sculpture portrait by Ismael Smith of Prat de la Riba (President of Catalonia of 1917).

This exhibition was awarded with the prize of the ACCA (Catalan Association Critics of Arts) in 2014.
