From nude to eroticism. Drawings, engravings and photographs from the 17th to 20th centuries

Exhibition that delves into the world of the Academy and allows us to follow, through drawings, engravings and old photographs, the training process of artists within art and drawing schools. By directly copying the model, through plasters, or thanks to drawing books, the creators practiced capturing proportions, expressions, movements of human figures… In parallel to these practices, at the end of the 19th century, the Catalan art critic Raimón Casellas coined the term ultraacademia to refer to those works where the border between what was acceptable to the conventional morality of the time could be crossed, penetrating into the world of eroticism or pornography… The exhibition revolves around These two visions and the naked body, whole, or dismembered in multiple details occupy the center of attention.

The exhibition brings together more than two hundred works, especially drawings, by artists from the 17th to the 20th centuries by authors such as: Anton Raphael Mengs, Antonio Palomino, Vicente López, Eduardo Rosales, Rafael Esteve, Vicente Castelló, Ramón Martí Alsina, Simó Gómez, Josep Llimona, Enric Clarasó, Eusebi Planas, Josep Maria Sert, Ricard Canals, Francisco Domingo, Ismael Smith, Federico Beltrán Masses, Josep de Togores, Jordi Alcaraz… Also period photographs by authors such as Antoni Esplugas, Josep María Cañellas, Gaudencio Marconi, etc.
