In the canonical representations of the Virgin as Immaculate Conception, the symbol of the Moon alludes to her role as Mediating Mother, bridge between earth and heaven, between the human and the divine,
Furthermore, in the Christian cultural framework, the Moon has an eminently feminine aspect compared to the masculinity of the Sun, to whom it is in a certain way subordinated, since the lunar glow depends on sunlight. In the same way is Mary’s relationship with God, her value and her greatness do not come from herself but are given to her from God.
