At the end of the XIX century, a series of portraits and postcards became popular at fairs and photography studios that had women as the protagonist and the Moon as indispensable props.
On a crescent-shaped cardboard or wooden moon, the models adopted the most varied postures: sitting, reclining, leaning. This popular portrait formula underlined the extent to which the link between women and the Moon was rooted in the folkloric imagination.
